Rolliman meets,…..“High Valley, Amercian Young & Jarrod Dickenson“
Am 07.03.18 war es mal wieder so weit: ein neues Konzert stand auf der Tagesordnung, diesmal wieder im Luxor in Köln, die kanadischen Brüder Curtis, Brad und Bryan Rempel, zur Zeit Nummer 8 der amerikanischen Country Charts, waren auf Promotour in Europa.
Da das Parken rund ums Luxor wie üblich ein Grauen ist, dauerte es schon einige Zeit, ehe man einen passenden Parkplatz gefunden hatte mit genügend Platz, um den Rollstuhl ein und auszuladen.
Deswegen waren wir auch etwas später wie geplant im Luxor und wir hatten gerade unseren Platz eingenommen, da sprang auch schon der erste Support-Act Jarrod Dickenson auf die Bühne.
Leider tat man ihm und seiner Frau damit keinen großen Gefallen, da der Club zu diesem Zeitpunkt wirklich noch weitestgehend leer war und die Beiden es wirklich schwer hatten, dort etwas Stimmung in den Laden zu bringen. Jedoch die Mischung aus American Country und Irish Folk hat schon was Geniales. Auch sind die Beiden von den Stimmen her nicht übel und hätten wirklich einen etwas längeren Auftritt verdient, wie nur 4 Songs.
Ich finde sowas immer etwas schade, weil man guten Nachwuchsmusikern immer etwas die Chance nimmt, ihr Spektrum zu zeigen und Erfahrung zu sammeln. Und für Countrysänger aus Amerika beziehungsweise Kanada ist der deutsche Markt oder überhaupt der europäische Markt immer eine Art Blindflug, weil sie nicht wissen, was sie hier eigentlich so richtig erwartet. In der Heimat sind diese Leute teilweise eine richtig große Nummer im Musikbusiness, während sie in Europa mehr ein Nischendasein fristen.
Der nächste Support-Act war das Duo American Young, bestehend aus Kristy Osmunson und Jon Stone. Während Jon schon auf der Bühne die ersten Akkorde aus seiner Klampfe kitzelte, kam Kristy ganz hektisch und nervös mit ihrem Geigenkasten vom Backstage-Eingang auf die Bühne gesprungen und bastelte dann da erst mal ihre Geige und ihren Geigenbogen zurecht, bevor sie mit ihm in das Stück einfiel. Aber das Ganze hatte wieder was, denn es zeigte mal wieder, wie cool und natürlich Künstler drauf sein können, so nach dem Motto: ,,Anfang verpasst, Scheiß egal, wir machen jetzt weiter…“
Jetzt haben sie dich Beiden auf der Bühne eh mehr gegenseitig hoch genommen und mit Sprüchen versorgt, wodurch wieder eine ganz eigene Stimmung und Atmosphäre entstand. Für mich besonders hervorzuheben ist, dass Beide exzellent nur mit Akustik-Instrumenten performten und dadurch unter Beweis stellten, dass man gute Musik auch ganz ohne Elektronik hinkriegen kann. Zudem stellte Kristy noch unter Beweis, dass man auch eine Geige (oder war es eine Violine?) auch als Banjo umfunktionieren kann und sie hat eine extrem gute Country Stimme.
Dieser Support-Act dauerte schon etwas länger und danach kam mit der kanadischen Country Band High Valley ein absolutes Powerhorse auf die Bühne. Die Jungs und die Gebrüder Rempel gaben sofort mal schwer Vollgas und ihre Mischung aus Country und Rock ‘n Roll ist eine richtige Gute-Laune-Mucke, der sich wirklich niemand entziehen kann. Die Füße und Hände gehen wirklich bei jedem Zuhörer automatisch im Takt mit und die Band muss sich nicht groß anstrengen, um den Laden auf Links zu drehen.
Die Sänger Curtis und Brad Rempel waren noch einige Male verwundert, dass ihre deutschen Fans so textsicher waren und ihre Songs wie ,,She´s with me“ oder der Klassiker ,,Fly away“ mit grölten. J Man merkte der Band wirklich ihren Spielspaß und die Lust am Live-Performen an und ich denke, dass sie auch gerne länger gespielt hätten wie nur 70 Minuten (allerdings ohne Pause). Als die Jungs nach einer Zugabe von den Roadies von der Bühne gekehrt wurden, da wurde schon ziemlich klar, dass der Zeitplan der Europa Tournee doch ziemlich eng getaktet ist.
Jedoch nahmen sich die Brüder nach dem Auftritt noch die Zeit und standen für Fotos und Autogrammwünsche zur Verfügung.
Abschließend ist zu sagen, dass mein Begleiter und ich wirklich einen Bombenabend hatten, mit richtig guter Musik und einer spitzenmäßigen Atmosphäre und jeder der 3 Acts steht ab sofort auf meiner ,,Wiederholungs-To-Do-Liste“. Also wenn sie nochmal nach Deutschland kommen, in die Nähe vom Rheinland, bin ich garantiert wieder am Start…

On March 7th 2018 I had a new concert on my agenda at the Luxor in Cologne: the Canadian brothers Curtis, Brad and Bryan Rempel, at that time number 8 of the American Country Charts, were on promotion tour in Europe.
As the parking around the Luxor is always terrible, it took some time before finding a suitable parking place with enough space to load and unload the wheelchair. That’s why we were a bit late.
We had just taken our place, when the first support act Jarrod Dickenson jumped on stage. Unfortunately the club was still empty at the time and the two of them had a hard time getting some mood into the club. The mixture of American Country and Irish Folk had something ingenious. The two voices were great and worth very much longer than only 4 songs.
Opening acts are a good chance for young musicians to get experience and show their range. And for country singers from America or Canada, the German market or even the European market is always a kind of blind-flight, because they do not know what people expect and if the audience will accept them. In their home countries these people are sometimes a big name in music business, while in Europe they are widely unknown to the masses.
The next support act was American Young, consisting of Kristy Osmunson and Jon Stone. While Jon tickled the first chords of his guitar on stage, Kristy jumped frantically and nervously with her violin case from the backstage entrance to the stage and then tinkered about her violin and bow before she could start playing. Natural artists can be so cool, like: „Start missed – do not care, we’ll continue now …“ ☺.
For me it is particularly noteworthy that both performed excellently with their acoustic instruments and thereby proved that good music can be achieved even without electronics. In addition, Kristy proved that one could use a violin (or was it a violin?) like a banjo. She has an extremely good country voice.
Then the Canadian country band High Valley came on the stage. The guys and brothers Rempel gave it a try and their mixture of country and rock’n’roll was a real good-mood-tune that nobody could escape. The feet and hands clapped and pounded automatically to the beat and the band did not have to make much effort to fuel the mood in the club. The singers Curtis and Brad Rempel were astonished a few times, that their German fans were so secure with the song texts and could sing songs like „She’s with me“ or the classic „Fly away“. ☺
One could feel how much fun the band had during their performance. I think they would have liked to play longer than 70 minutes (without break). When the guys were swept off the stage after an encore by the roadies, it became pretty clear that the schedule for the European tour was pretty tight. However, after their show, the brothers took the time for photos and autograph requests.
My companion and I really had a great night with good music and an outstanding atmosphere. Each of the 3 acts is now on my „repeat to-do list“. So if you come to Germany near Rhineland again, I’ll be there!
